“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy…that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist… The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.” Martha Graham
I’ve been thinking about this quote a lot lately. Mainly because I’ve been in a bit of a slump (which is natural after I complete a big project). I’m also taking a much needed break and when I stop making and start thinking, I tend to get a bit dark in my thoughts. It’s been good to be reminded through Martha Graham’s words, to maintain my focus on what’s important - the business of keeping the channel open, even through the dark days.
The performance of “Confessions of a SunYeo” went great. I’m hoping to share a video of the performance with you soon. In the mean time, here are some moments from the performance my daughter captured for me. I was really really pleased with the quality of the projections. I’ve performed in spaces where the projections weren’t as good, so this taught me a lot about the importance of high quality projectors for my work. :)
I would love to hear your thoughts - please do leave them through the comments (or notes, if you’ve started using them!).
Soyoung the photos are stunning. Can’t imagine how exquisitely gorgeous your movements must have been. Congratulations!
